How To Keep Your Body and Soul Healthy – Being healthy is not just about physical thing; it’s about your mind. Here are some tips on how to keep your body and soul healthy.
- Do something small and do it right away
A lot of people have a New Year resolution mentality towards losing weight. I will do diet after Chinese New Year, or I will do it after Hari Raya, and when the day come, they forget, and set the marker again and again. Tomorrow never comes in that regard. There are small, simple things you can do straight away that will have a tremendous effect on your health, like a 20-30 minutes jogging the park. It’s not about, “oh I don’t have time to do that” or “I work at morning”. So what? You can get up earlier and work out. Can’t get up early? Try sleep earlier at night. It’s about your faith.
- Look for healthy alternatives when you shop
I always believe that it’s easy to take small steps at the supermarket to improve the quality of food you buy. Plus, these changes won’t cost you a fortune. Take a bit more care with the things you put in your shopping basket. When you buy milk, try the low fat option. Instead of getting fatty cuts of meat, get lean cuts of meat and instead of chicken, try some fish, fish is healthy. When you want to buy coke, try yakult or orange juice.
- Adopt a positive attitude
It’s important to curb negative feelings. When I worked out at gym for the first time, I often feel ashamed. I don’t know what to do, I’m a shy person fyi, and I almost gave it up. Until my friend told me follow her move, told me what to do, and as times goes by, I not feeling ashamed anymore,I even follow my trainer move from a far. It’s not necessarily about being able to affor a trainer. Put down your pride, everyone need to start somewhere.
- Set goals and write them down
When I worked out, I often set small, realistic goals every couple of weeks and that can remind me of what have I been doing at every work out session. For example, I set a goal about losing a kilo in a week. And when a week arrives, I can see myself if my session worth it or not. It’s also important to be honest with yourself. You can’t lose ten kilo a week. That’s ridiculous, and that’s not healty. Do it step by step, and you can have a healty body and soul.
- Drink a lot of water
There are two reasons why hydration is important: Firstly, you need to hydrate your body so it has enough fluid to function. Secondly, it can help settle your hunger pangs. If you drink, you’re less likely to feel hungry all the time. It’s not a substitute for meals but it’s still going to stop you from snacking on cookies and stuff.
- Get an hour of exercise six times a week
It’s always be best to try and move at least six times a week for one hour each time. Do a combination of cardio, weight and stretching exercises. It’s not always about big exercise, you can count morning walk as 1. Also rest your body every once in a week. It’s important.
- Stay away from processed food
It’s always been best if possible to pick up an organic food. Organic food doesn’t have any pesticides and artificial colourings and flavourings. Also, eat six small meals a day to keep the metabolism firing. Ah, stay away from junk food. Its delicious, yeah I know, but it’s not healthy. Eat it every once in a while is okay, but not everyday.
- Get lots of rest
It’s important to get seven to eight hours of sleep a night because that’s when the body recovers. If you’re not getting that, the body is constantly tired and susceptible to illness.
